Yes, kids, it is the Foodarama Party Book! A fun cookbook for fun loving people. Published in 1959 by the Kelvinator Division of American Motors Corp. A cookbook from a car manufacturer? Well, a refrigerator company anyhow.
What is more fun than a party book?! Well, perhaps words like Foodarama! Foodarama was actually the name of a refrigerator produced by Kelvinator. Check out the video at the end of this review!
Inside this gem you find info on How to Plan Your Party including: Birthday Parties, Valentine Parties, Bridal Showers, Cocktail Parties, Tea Parties, Washington’s Birthday Parties, and much more. If you are planning a party, this book is for you. (Especially if you’re having a retro party.)
The book has a fun, festive feel (obviously), with some fun fonts, cute vintage illustrations and well lit photos of food on a white background. The recipes look fairly well done, and there are a mix of somewhat tasty looking recipes, along with some where I don’t know whether to laugh or cringe.
On top of all that, you’ll find party tips, table setting ideas, and best of all… party games. The party games have some of the usuals such as: Treasure Hunt, Pin The Tail, races & games of skill, and Elopement. Yes, what better party game to play with your friends & spouses… the Elopement game. Strange.
Back to the Kelvinator Foodarama… here is a commercial from somewhere in the 1950′s.
