Meat Merchandising

Meat Merchandising, July 1930Dedicated to Retailers of Meats and Related Food Products. Ah, look at the happy pigs marching up to the butcher counter.  And what is the butcher hiding behind the counter?  Okay, I’ll let your imagine figure that one out.

This booklet isn’t a cookbook per se, but does have a few recipes in it, along with some tips on butchering different cuts of meat.  As the title says, it is a booklet dedicated to meat retailers, and is filled with all the info a meat retailer could want. There are many tips on displays and merchandising, tips on debt collecting, studies on sales margins, and a wealth of very cool ads for refrigeration units, to meat slicers, to those fantastic giant cash registers of the day.

This booklet is a fun little piece of history showing both food packaging design, and industrial design from the 1930′s.  A fine piece for anyone’s vintage cookbook collection.
