Easy Triumphs with the New Minute Tapioca

Easy Triumphs with the New Minute Tapioca - 85 Recipes with glad news in them, published in 1934 by General Foods Corporation. Who doesn’t love an easy triumph when it comes to tapioca recipes? Raise your hand if you don’t… see, I knew we’d be in agreement!

This is a great example of 1930′s illustration and design, and is filled with colorful illustrations as you can see on the cover. I also love the upbeat quality with the “glad news” apparently in every recipe. Wow, now that is an amazing feat in itself! Tell me the last time you had a recipe with glad news in it?  Hell, I guess any glad news in 1934 was a good thing, all things considered.

And if you thought tapioca was limited to pudding, well this cookbook will set you straight! Sure this cookbook has plenty of dessert recipes using tapioca, but tapioca is not just for dessert anymore.  Why not use tapioca in your omelets and soufflés, or in soups, or even in meat loaves and in sandwich filling!

Aside from 85 recipes with glad news in them, you will also find menu ideas.  Perhaps on of my favorites is “Refrigerator Dinner:

  • Jellied Tomato Bouillon
  • Sliced Cold Tongue
  • Whipped Mustard
  • Hot Rolls
  • Peach Jam
  • Water Cress of Endive Salad
  • Chocolate Ice Cream
  • Butterscotch Waffers
  • Iced Coffee or Tea

Okay, I admit the “hot rolls” doesn’t seem to fit with the “refrigerator” theme, but yum, hey?!  I haven’t had sliced tongue in I don’t know how long… definitely not this life-time.

Another classic in the history of vintage cookbooks!
