Money-Saving Magic
Money-Saving Magic, Herb-Ox 25 delicious menus and recipes… published in 1958 by The Pure Food Co. Saving money on your meals is always a good thing, especially with Herb-Ox Bouillon Cubes. “First in Quality” and “Made from the Finest Ingredients.
It seems that back in the day, food companies liked to put “ox” in the name of their products, and I’ve yet to find out why. (Although the Hydrox Cookie, which sounds like a chemical, made the name from the elements of water… Hydrogen and Oxygen. I don’t get it… weird name for a cookie.)
This little recipe book is filled with taste-tempting meal ideas as well as their clever little mascot, the bouillon cube guy. The food photos range from okay to “what the hell is that?!” If you’ve ever wondered how to make Liver Parmigiana, Creamed Flaked Fish, or Hamburger Chowder, you can find all of those tasty recipes and more in Money-Saving Magic!
I also love that they have a meatless section, but 3 out of 5 recipes include fish, so I’m guessing the vegetarian concept had yet to catch on back in 1958.
You know, you just don’t hear the phrase “choice morsels” anymore, do you? Criminy dutch, I just don’t understand why.
