Retro Cookbook Video Review #2 – Fun With Coffee
Nov 3rd, 2009 |
Second in the series of Retro Cookbook video reviews… this one is on Fun with Coffee! Sorry for the deadspace at the end of the video. The file upload doesn’t show it, but it shows up when I upload it to YouTube.

Oh no! According to this book, I’m actually ODing on my daily intake of niacin!
Do you think it’ll kill me?
(I love how *this* worries me more than the vast quantities of caffeine I drink!)

Hello Richard, thanks for following! While I am not a doctor, nor will I play one in these videos, here is some info I found on Drugs.com (really):
All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome when using Niacin:
Diarrhea; dry skin; headache; itching; stomach upset; temporary skin redness, tingling or feelings of warmth (flushing)
Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Niacin:
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); black, tarry, or bloody stools; changes in vision; cloudy or blurred vision; decrease in urine or dark-colored urine; dizziness; fast or irregular heartbeat; flu-like symptoms (nausea, vomiting, “not well” feeling); irregular heartbeat; loss of appetite; muscle weakness, swelling, tenderness, or pain; numbness or persistent tingling of the skin; swelling of the hands, legs, or feet; vomit that looks like coffee grounds; yellowing of the skin or eyes.
Please note one of those last SEVERE side effects… vomit that looks like coffee grounds. (I’m really not making this up! ha!) A few things this Drugs.com article failed to note, but are (probably) known folklore and wives tales are: bleeding stigmata’s, parasitic twins, speaking in tongues, levitation, doppleganger infestations, and spontaneous human combustion.
If you are experiencing ANY of these, I highly recommend seeing your doctor, nutrionalist, or mortician as soon as possible.
Thanks again for reading…
Jim
