Hobo Sandwich – Recipe

Oct 25th, 2009 by admin | 3

hobo sandwichAh, a Hobo’s sandwich never looked so good!  This fine sandwich recipe is from the Swift’s Premium Party Recipe Ideas from 1962.  Now, to be honest, I’d not have expected a “Hobo” sandwich to consist of much, but this little cookbook-let has proven me wrong!  I guess hobo’s eat better than I thought!  Hell, they eat better than I have at times!  And this photo shows that hobo couple’s are quite happy and attractive, and… oh, they aren’t hobos!

Slice a crust loaf of bread lengthwise. Spread both halves with Swift’s Brookfield Butter or Allsweet.  Spread top half with mustard and the bottom with Swift’s Premium Braunschweiger.  Top the Braunschweiger with crisp lettuce leaves, then slices of Swift’s Premium hard Salami, P&P Loaf, Spiced Luncheon Meat, slice Brookfield Cheese, pickle chips, sliced tomato, green pepper and onion rings.   Arrange the top half of the loaf of bread in place, sandwich fashion.  To serve, anchor the sandwich with wooden or metal skewers.  Slice into serving-sized portions.
