Around the World Cook Book

around the world cook bookGood House Keeping’s Around The World Cook Bookspecialty recipes with a foreign flavor is another in the series of cook booklets published by Good Housekeeping.  Published in 1958, this one is marked as number 19 in the series, and I’ve yet to find out how many the series actually contains.

The Around the world Cook Book contains a nice collection of recipes from: Brazil, China, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Haiti, Hawaii, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Mexico, The Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, and Turkey.  The recipes actually look quite good and we’ll be including some of them here on the Retro Cookbook site.

As usual with these vintage cookbooks, this one contains great illustrations throughout, and the food photography is actually quite good as compared to some other cookbooks.  My only disappointment with this cookbook is that they only have one or two recipes for certain countries, and provide dozens of recipes each for select countries.  I would have preferred to see at least four recipes from each country so readers could get a better idea of the range of tastes each country offers.
