Good Housekeeping Cook Book – 1955
My well worn copy of the 1955 edition of the Good Housekeeping Cook Book has many great illustrations and food photos. Oh, ah… the recipes are interesting also. “Cheese-Potato Mound”, “Orange Fluff Sauce”, Cube Steaks with Hasty-Tasty Sauce”, “Chicken Hickmano”…. Hickmano? I’ve only found one other source for that word on the internet… a photo of the recipe. And other great titles such as “Let’s Have Canned Meats”, “Let’s Have The Last of the Meat”, and “When It’s Oysters”. When It’s Oysters? What the hell does that mean?
It is actually a fairly good cookbook which is not only filled with good to odd recipes, but it has various list of menu ideas and other tips and tricks. I look forward to finding other editions of the Good Housekeeping Cook Book to see how the design, art & photos, and recipes differ from this great edition.
